At the start of the 2025 fall semester, a one-day event brought together first- and second year Bachelor’s students from the Department of Architecture for the first time. Around 700 students spent four hours drawing: they could focus on whatever they wanted in whatever style they wanted, as long as there was a connection to architecture and the HIL building. Students observed and interpreted individual sections, corners, or fragments of the building – abstractly, analytically or intuitively. In a short space of time, an extraordinary density of views emerged: 700 individual approaches to the same building.
These works form the visual prelude to a longer-term process in which the future of the HIL building will be conceived not by external planners, but by the department itself. This event enabled numerous voices to contribute to the debate from the very beginning of their studies, through a light and open-ended yet highly relevant visual and intellectual exercise.
