Cooperation within the Living Lab HIL takes place through input projects, which are developed between the participating professorships and the planning team through active collaborations.
These projects combine research, teaching and planning, the aim of testing innovative approaches at an early stage and, where possible, transferring them to the construction project. Interested professorships may contact the planning team.
Together with ETH Real Estate Management (REM) and experts from Infrastructure and Sustainability (VPIN), the internal planning team reviews the results of the input projects with regard to their potential for integration into the construction project.
Planning
Input projects in the focus area of planning examine spatial, conceptual and digital issues relating to transformation, including topics such as building technology and energy efficiency. These include design studies, building analyses, and new planning and simulation methods.
Construction
The focus area of construction centers on construction processes, materialization, and innovative manufacturing methods. Where possible, approaches to reprogramming, reuse, and new construction principles can be prototyped and tested in HIL.
Use
The focus area of use deals with future learning and working environments. It invites examination of new usage models and spatial typologies, as well as the needs of existing users.
Input projects with be developed, evaluated, and gradually consolidated over several years. A structured selection process will ensure that relevant findings are specifically incorporated into planning and implementation.
The timeframe for the development of input projects is limited to three years (2026-2028) and will be focused as follows over these years:
The input projects will be consolidated over the course of 2027. The key results are to be incorporated into the construction project by the end of 2028. Some individual collaborations may also be continued after 2028, depending on the area of application (for example, innovations concerning the field of construction processes).
