To check the structure of a design, civil engineers usually work with independent digital structural models. In conventional planning, these models are usually detached and built on the basis of a model template provided by the architects, as they are more abstract than the architectural model.
The ‘Digital Structural Twin’ project has created a direct link between the two models. Using a script, the architectural model from Rhino can be transferred directly to the RFEM structural analysis software. The script translates the geometry, the information (such as cross-sections and material parameters), and also the abstraction of the model. The effects of forces on the structural system can be simulated so that, for example, load transfer and deformations can be analyzed.
The direct connection between the software tools shortens feedback loops, and allows design and structural variations to be exchanged, simulated, and further developed much more quickly.
The results serve as a basis for calculating the Input Project Prototypical roof construction.
