This study collects proposals for the future of the HIL building and systematically documents the needs, preferences, and expectations of its users. In the first phase, open workshops and a broad baseline survey are conducted with all HIL users. These formats enable both qualitative discussions and a quantitative assessment of key requirements. The aim is to gain a comprehensive understanding of how different groups – students, staff, and temporary visitors – use and perceive the building, and what changes they consider necessary for the future.
In addition, initial assessments of functional shortcomings, spatial qualities, and potential development paths will be gathered to capture the diversity of expectations. Usage patterns, spatial routines, and specific requirements will also be recorded to contextualize the results and highlight differences between user groups systematically. Combining open formats with structured data collection provides a robust foundation for mapping the range of perspectives and identifying key themes for future work.
