In the Ready-Unmade project, students engage with the HIL building as it exists today and with its surrounding context. They investigate how materials and construction processes shape spatial perception and architectural experience. At the same time, they ask what potential lies within the existing building fabric and how the building can be used, adapted, and further developed in the future.
Over the course of two semesters — HS Laboratory and FS Field — students work experimentally with HIL. They observe the building, examine its spatial, material, and programmatic qualities, and develop new approaches based on their findings. In this way, they create ideas for a more vibrant, flexible, and inclusive academic environment.
At the centre of the studio is The Workshop: a shared working and experimental space developed together with the students. Here, ideas are tested, materials are explored, and architectural interventions are implemented at a 1:1 scale.
