With the project office for the Living Lab HIL, a versatile space is being created that brings working, meeting, exhibiting, and hosting events together under one roof. Converting the former emergency exit into a regular exterior door now connects the interior directly with the outdoor area. This enables new forms of interaction to be tested while also examining how the previously underused outdoor space can be more strongly integrated into everyday activities.
The spacious room remains openly designed and is structured into different zones through its furnishing. This flexible layout makes it possible to combine workstations, meeting areas, and spaces for workshops or exhibitions as needed.
A long built in unit along the wall consolidates key functions: it integrates a small tea kitchen and provides lockable storage for personal and shared items. The stepped height of the unit also creates additional usable areas for short work sessions or standing conversations.
In keeping with the Living Lab concept, the ceiling and floor are deliberately left exposed. This reveals the installations, the reinforced concrete ceiling, the mushroom slab columns, the cement floor, and the aluminum cable ducts. This openness makes the building’s materiality tangible while also offering valuable insights for future renovation considerations.
