The project “HIL Provisorium” understands the temporary not as a transition, but as a driver of transformation. It creates a temporary space that accommodates key work and teaching areas during the renovation and can, over time, evolve into a permanent place for production, exchange and reflection. As a “breathing” structure, it brings light, air and movement back into the building and strengthens the spatial and social openness of the HIL.
The temporary structure uses local resources, reused components and regenerative materials, and is conceived as a flexible, reversible form of architecture. It builds on the productive tradition of provisional spaces—Globus Provisorium, Huber Pavilions, ONA—and brings their experimental spirit back to the heart of Hönggerberg.
The aim is to create a space that supports ongoing operations, explores new forms of teaching and building, and, as a lasting piece of infrastructure, strengthens the identity of the department: a temporary structure that remains.
